The Opportunity

An established engineering consultancy supporting the energy and industrial sectors is seeking a Senior Control & Instrumentation Systems Engineer to join a growing specialist team focused on rotating machinery, condition monitoring and emissions reporting.

This is a hands-on role offering exposure to complex, real-world systems across oil & gas, power generation and related industries, with strong scope for technical development, client engagement and long-term progression.

The Role

You will support and develop in-house monitoring platforms used for remote condition and emissions monitoring of critical rotating equipment, including gas turbines, compressors, pumps and steam turbines.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting online monitoring systems that collect and analyse data from industrial control systems and historians

  • Investigating and resolving data communication and integration issues

  • Providing technical support for server-based systems, including build, replacement and troubleshooting

  • Producing reliability, performance and emissions reports using live operational data

  • Supporting long-term client contracts involving regulatory emissions and performance reporting

  • Undertaking UK site visits (up to ~20%) for installation, testing and commissioning activities

You’ll work closely with a multidisciplinary engineering team, contributing from day one while continuing to build your expertise across machinery monitoring, data analytics and industrial control systems.

About You

This role would suit an engineer looking to step into a more senior or specialist position within control, instrumentation or industrial data systems.

Key experience includes:

  • Background in a relevant industrial environment (e.g. production processes, oil & gas, power generation)

  • Understanding of industrial control systems and data communications (including modern platforms and Modbus)

  • Experience configuring and working with databases (e.g. OSI/PI, SQL)

  • Software development or scripting experience (e.g. Python, Power BI); SCADA experience highly beneficial

  • Exposure to project lifecycle documentation (FDS, DDS, FAT, SAT) advantageous but not essential

  • Strong problem-solving mindset with a proactive, hands-on approach

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build professional relationships

  • Ability to manage workload, priorities and deadlines independently

Additional requirements:

  • Full UK driving licence

  • Degree in Engineering or Science desirable but not essential with relevant experience
